thank u thank u

my laptop is now working i have sound Grin and no drag on the screen.
how come you could find the gericom download site and i could not Thinking i spent 4 days looking for that.
I even posted on three other forums and no one wanted to help me or they did not know how to help.
you found the drivers in a hour how do you do that Thinking
i have to admit i knew where gericom website was as i have used it before.

well i have this very nasty habbit of finding drivers other people can't i guess its just one of those useless things i can do.
that and i have been doing it for years on end so you kind of know what to input in to a search engine.

on some sites they just don't input the time and effort as i do , just because i can't place my hands on something does not mean it not on the net, i will search and read till i find a answer or i will sit and play with my computer and mix and match driver files till i find something that may work.

at the moment i don't have a great deal of time to sit and do that ,far to many things going on around me but i do still spend as much of my free time as i can on here after all thats what i built the site for.

I would not call that a useless skill, no way.
saved me thats for sure without your help i would not have been able to get this laptop working and i would have to pay for it to be done.

keep up the good work davey6
Hi Dave,
I was in a similar position with the same laptop (except it was my wife's that I had messed up!!). I put a pen drive in before booting and it threw a real wobbler, did something nasty to Windows and wouldn't boot so I had to use the Windows rescue disk! I found this forum in a search for drivers and I am very grateful for the zip file you gave "Stuck". It has been a god send and I am very grateful.

Many thanks for that.

Many, many thanks for being there :) Especially when needed.

Regards, Bill.
Hi All,

Got one of these that I'm trying to optimise and enhance for my aged father.

I'm trying to update the BIOS on this system, but Everest is even less help than the OP's version was.

Under the 'Motherboard Name' it just comes up with "unknown" - no mention of a Hummer or anything. Similarly, when running the AMIBIOS Motherboard ID Utility, I get the following:

AMIBIOS Motherboard Manufacturer Identification
Version 1.4 (01/12/2004) Copyright 2003 American Megatrends, Inc.

This file has recorded information useful in identifying the manufacturer
of this motherboard. The information is listed below:

Anyone know what this system is, or where I can pick up a BIOS update?

Cheers,

DJUnreal
wow thats a blast from the past.
if my memory serves me that is running a P4 3.06 gig chip and that laptop takes standard pc ram sticks.

it was a pretty good laptop in its day with its standalone gfx 5600 card.
as for bios updates gericom only done one so if that laptop is running bios version 1.3 then thats the last one they done for it.

i have not seen one of those laptops in years as they tended to blow out the power board in a cloud of smoke.

as for updating the bios i think its best to leave it alone and use the laptop for what it is.
as far as i can remember the motherboard will take 2 gig of ram max
and was best suited to that p4 cpu as it was the mobile version that demarded less power.

i was just looking over gericom site and they seem to have removed all their older laptops from the downloads.
i a not even sure if they still make laptops because they were a oem partner that rebranded its own stuff to be sold under shop own brand names.

i can dig a little more in to gericom site if you wish to know more.

you can also try the everest update its now called AIDA64 and you can download a trail version from here.
http://www.aida64.com/downloads
that should give you a better idea of the boards number.
Wow, thanks for the quick response!

If I'm not running 1.3, can you tell me where to get it please?

I'm not gonna upgrade the chip, but the RAM needs upgrading (I've already spotted that it's standard DDR rather than SO-DIMMs).

512MB just isn't enough to run XP, so that's the first thing it's getting more of. I'm glad I've found someone who knows Gericom kit though.

My dad has only just agreed to let me start doing stuff to the laptop - he's had it for years and always insisted that "it came like this so it should stay like this", and then promptly proceeded to start whinging that it's so slow and takes ages to do anything. Personally, I reckon 2 gigs of RAM and a fresh OS without the default bloatware will sort it out quite nicely for a while!

Also, I'm impressed that you know the chip from memory. I can confirm it's a 3.06GHz P4, and yes, the FX5600 is pretty good for its time!

Power board issues, eh? This one's only problem with power is that the battery is particularly useless - he always insisted on fully discharging and then charging it again, and has managed to completely kill the battery! He's asking me to get him a new one, but I shouldn't have any problems with that as it's just a 'standard' panasonic. What tends to happen to the power boards to cause them to go?

Should I tell him to get a new laptop, and just put this one in a museum? ;)
to be honest i would not replace that battery, if the power board is aging as i think it must be by now a brand new battery may kill that laptop stone dead, the strain of trying to charge a new battery may be a step too far.
the battery was never that good on that model it was too small and the way gericom fitted it in the base like that was just silly

the age of that laptop would mean its running a older 2.5" drive the best way to speed it up would be a faster spin speed hard drive and more memory

i will do my best to find the bios for you at gericom i know they use to list it but to be honest i think the only thing it added was new cpu support.
its years since i worked on that model but i will try and find as much info as i can.
and before i forget on the bottom sticker of that laptop should be its full model number can you let me know what that is please.
i can't remember if its part of the blockbuster or supersonic range they use to sell

quick edit **
my brain is working, on teh first black and white bios screen push the pause button.
i am sure the motherboard is listed on that screen and the series of the laptop along with its bios version number.

if that fails a cheeky scan with biosagent should let slip what this motherboard is http://biosagentplus.com/?ref=616
be warned that program is a pain in the backside it will also want you to pay for the bios update and driver updates.
just use it to get the info we need and i will do the rest at gericom
