i take it this is the Visioneer 5800 one touch USB scanner ?
do you have the full paperport cdrom that came with the scanner?
what you need to do is install paper port and wait for the install to tell you to plug the scanner in and switch it on.
if you plug the scanner in to early the install fails and you get that error.
also some firewalls block the install to system 32 files and access to the ports if you have a firewall on the pc make sure
its switched on while you do the install , when your firewall gives you a warning you must allow access or it blocks the port and files.
if you have install paper port open that program,
click file , select source.
set it to scan manager.
i have the stand alone driver in the download section below but that is the bare driver only with no software so you need a photo program to access the device to scan a photo e.t.c
can you post back with what windows you are running.
and check in device manager of your pc and see if your usb ports are working if they have a yellow ? or ! they have a problem.
if that is the case please let me know the main chipset used in your pc

ok i have the basic driver download for the Visioneer 5800 here.
http://www.davesdrivers.com/forum/showth...hp?tid=325
last one in the list.
download that file and double click it ( make sure yore scanner is unplugged at the time )
when the driver has installed, plug the scanner in so windows can find it.
I do have a paperport download on site thats the full install disk for that scanner but if you are on dail up net access
you will never download it as its over 400meg in size.
