Dave...

After tedious hours of searching, my friend has managed to get 'almost' everything on this laptop working with XP. He gave me one of his laptops to work on (they're identical). The last of the issues appear to be with the sound and hotkeys.

I managed to get rid of all those pesky !'s in device manage under his sound devices. The last remaining problems are three unknown devices, all of which I've found to be related to windows hotkeys (by looking up the device ID's and use of PCwizard). The sound driver and codecs all appear to be functioning properly, but there is no audio coming out of the speakers. There is a media bar above the keyboard, with shortcuts to play, mute, skip > and <, as well as a few other general media shotcuts. All of these buttons are fully functional.

He said that he has contacted Gateway and they told him that they didn't offer any drivers for any devices on that laptop for XP and furthermore, it's impossible to run XP on that laptop. This is obviously a lie since every other component is working nicely.

I'm assuming that he'll just have to wait until someone unpacks the vista drivers for the sound device and rewrites them for XP... Any chance you're that guy?
can you post back with the serial number of that gateway i want to check the spec
on the sound card

Other information you may find useful....

Currently Installed Audio Driver:
ATI Function Driver for High Definition Audio - ATI 791A
Provider: ATI
Date: 7/13/07
Version: 5.0.40001.9
Signed by Microsoft

Information on 3 unknown devices:

All are located on Microsoft ACPI-Complieant Embedded Controller
Device Instance ID's are as follows:
ACPI\PNP0C32\1
" "\2
" "\3
the sound is listed as the IDT/SigmaTel in the vista downloads i think that is the SigmaTel hd audio

what audio driver did you load on this laptop ?
i do have a sigmatel hd audio driver here in my sony downloads
try this driver on that gateway.

the hot keys would give you a unknown error so what i would do is log in to gateway and download all the vista 32bit drivers.

unpack those drivers then point the unknown device at the unpacked driver folder.
xp should pick up on the files and load up what it needs.

Hi, I am trying the same thing with the same type of computer (T-1616) but I have been having problems with the sound card. I tried other drivers and got these installed:

ATI Function Driver for High Definition Audio - ATI 791A
SigmaTel High Definition Audio CODEC

I'm still not getting any sound out of my speakers, and I've been searching for the correct drivers to install but have yet to find them, and the link above is giving me a 403 Forbidden error. If there's somewhere that has the right driver to fix this or if that link could just be repaired, it would be much appreciated. Thanks
quickcard, the link seems to be back up and working now. Had some problems with the forum for a few days - Davey's getting it sorted out.

You need to install the Microsoft UAA first, and the SigmaTel drivers second, in that order. UAA is in a folder under Audio.
