HL-340 USB-Serial cable for XP - rufo - 05-13-2008

Hi,

I read the previous thread about some problem with HL-340 cable, and tried catsmaty's install driver procedure but it won't work.

I want to connect from my usb/laptop(ACER Aspire) using an emulator application Reflection (Unix and Digital). Device Manager detect USB-SERIAL CH340 (COM6) after using catsmaty's driver.

Hope you can give me an advice for my problem.

Thanks a lot.

change the com port in the settings, com port 2 was the old setting for one built on the motherboard you program may be looking for that setting.

if device manager does list this and you can see the com port settings it is installed the correct way you just need to change the com port setting to match what the emulator application is looking for.

thanks davey6 for the prompt response, do i have to uninstall my CH340 driver when im going to change the com port?

you should be able to change what com port it is using by its own settings.
a uninstall and reinstall should not be needed.

hi davey6,

thanks for the advice, i am now ok connecting to my serial HL340 usb-DB9 but the Reflection X emulator doesn't had the good output. The reflection window generates a code that can't be read. If you have still an idea about the problem i appreciate your help.

thanks

I am also not having any luck with catsmaty's instructions/drivers. I do not get any errors but Windows XP will not correctly install the device. I am reinstalling windows right now and hopefully will have better luck on a clean install.

I e-mailed the seller on eBay and he sent me a rar file. I have not given it a try yet.

No luck after the windows install. It still shows up as "USB2.0-Ser!" in the device manager.

Well, at least hotwater9 is farther along than I -- all I get in device manager is "unknown device." Have followed all these threads... and followed catsmaty's procedure.
-- I have the little blue installation CD which has the same files catsmaty recommends... downloaded his to compare.
-- Wonder: if the peripheral to be controlled also has to be connected before it will be recognized. (I'm trying to connect the serial plug from a weather station to a USB port, something that I know others have done and "backwards" appears to work -- at least with some of these little gems.)
--Wanted to do it this way because I could use a few more USB ports. So, I bought a card with 4 ports and it seems to work fine with other devices. Maybe I should buy a card with a couple of serial ports and install it in my last remaining slot.

Thoughts?

Many thanks,

-- Pulsar

I got a refund and order an adapter that cost more than $.99 from Amazon. Hopefully it works better than this blue piece of Crap.

Roger that, hotwater9 -- I'm thinking maybe I ought to give up on this and by a PCI card with a couple of serial ports.

Any final thoughts, pearls of wisdom, etc. on this?

(Maybe for a number of users, this thing just won't.) ;-)

Thanks,

I just battled with my CH-340 which spazzed out and reverted to USB2.0-Ser! which it does from time to time. Something i learned was that if the serial end is connected to something, it will always detect as Usb2.0-Ser! and never as the CH-340 required to match the inf file.

as soon as i unplugged it from the live device on the other end, the new hardware wizard still popped up and asked for a driver location (despite it being installed) and i saw it flash up Usb2.0-Ser! -> CH-340 -> Usb2.0-Ser!->CH-340 and eventually it installed

pearl of wisdom == disconnect it from the serial device while trying to install else it will never get past being detected as usb2.0-Ser!

this p.o.s. is truly re-affirms 'good, fast, cheap', with the corollary of "pick one"
