PLEASE help with downgrading HP Pavilion dv6000 to Windows XP pro
Extremely sorry if this has been covered already but I could not find the downgrade for this specific system elsewhere while using the search option. I just wiped my system and put windows xp pro on. I have nothing..no internet, sound..I'm just lost.
I've tried different drivers but they dont do anything :( I am at your mercy...please help. I'm starting my last semester of nursing school on monday and am dreading not having my computer!
ok i will do the best i can for you, but i need some more info from that laptop.
the DV6000 is the HP range number.
if you turn that laptop upside down you will there is a sticker on the bottom, on that sticker will be the laptops full model number.
can you please let me know what that is please so i can check the hardware inside that machine.

i will also need to know what version of windows xp you install ?
you should really only be using windows xp pro with service pack 2 installed to do this downgrade.
Windows XP with service pack 2? Ok, I will try to get one of those. The one I have has Service pack 3.
The model number is: dv6910us

Thank you so much for helping me with this!
ok checking the specs at hp.
its a pretty straight forward laptop to downgrade and most of the drivers listed here should help you.

however there is going to be a problem with your sound card and the reason why i asked for sp2 only.
Its a HD audio chip, if you try and install these with sp3 already in place the main sound card will not install because the microsoft UAA driver is incorrect in sp3.
the other problem is HP list both realtek and conexant for the same laptop, i will need to know what audio chipset you have once you got the basic stuff done.

so if possible please install this list first then we can go from there.

windows xp pro sp2
chipset driver
microsoft UAA
direct X
windows update, all updates on offer but please skip sp3 at this stage.

once thats done please post the HD audio chips id string and i should be able to work what chip it is.
how to find that device id string can be found here.

Hp don't support this model under windows xp, they list very limited downloads, but its still worth downloading these and installing them as your network driver is listed and that will help you get back on the net and do the direct x and windows updates.
Thanks! im working on getting xp with sp2 right now :)
i need to grab some shut eye,
if you run in to a problem please post it and i will take a look as soon as i fall out my
bed in the morning, its pretty late here now
Will XP home edition with SP 2 work?
Also, do I need that "co cpu" file?
First off..and this may be because Im trying XP home with SP2...the chipset did not work. I got an error. I tried going to your link about installing drivers but it didnt work. I've just been double clicking the icons and letting them go through their thing. Very frusturating :(
I have to go to bed..class starts tomorrow. For now Im borrowing a friends laptop for classes. Thank you for your help...I really hope we can get this fixed.

Here are all of the drivers and things that had yellow question marks:

xp home will not work your sound card.
the problem is the conexant sound chip in the laptop refused to be downgraded from vista to xp home.
it only seems to be xp pro you can force to accept the drivers.

most of that list is standard stuff after xp has been installed and you can try windows xp home if you wish but i can't see it running the sound.

smbus controller i have on site, cp cpu again i already have that on site.
gfx will need a mode driver but i can point you to that.
base system device is hotkeys/ card reader, IEEE 1394 is your firewire, not always possible to get the driver but i can try.

two Ethernet controllers are your wifi card and main lan.

let me know what you want to do and i will see what i can find for you, just warning you that your sound may not work under xp home
Ok, I will use xp pro with sp2. Will the chipset work with that one?
Installing xp pro with sp2 now. I hope my old registry key works. So am I doing the drivers correctly? I just double click the icon on my jump drive and let it install?
don't add any registry keys to a new install of windows, that can cause problems at this stage.

yes chipset driver will install, the sound is still going to be a problem and may need to be forced in.
its a case of push and shove with windows to get it working.
i will tell you how to do that once i can narrow down what sound you have, get windows installed first then the list i gave you above.
Ok, the windows xp pro sp2 is going right now. Once that is done I will attempt to download the chipset and that list you gave me and then update you on how that went. Again, thank you!
When I try to install the chipset I'm still getting this error: "Setup has detected that none of the chipsets supported by this install package are enabled on this system. The installation will be terminated" :(

It wouldnt let me install without putting in the code.
ok not to worry, try this set.

i was checking hp on this when you posted back.
your chipset is listed as the geforce 7150 or in otherwords the nforce 610i which the above drivers do support
my wireless is disabled. I installed the two drivers you had under wireless. When I try to install directX it tells me I have to be connected to the internet. So I got the chipset and the UAA and then installed the wireless things but havent got directX yet. Do you have a link for one that works without the internet?
I have to go to class now. So out of that list I got up to the directX. Can you let me know what you would like now? I'd really like to get on the internet so I can use my laptop instead of using a jumpdrive back and forth between computers. I dont know if those wireless drivers arent right or what but it's currently not working :( Thanks for your help so far though!! We are making progress!
direct x really is best download direct from mircosoft.
need to get your wifi up so you can update it, and here is where the problems begin trying to find a driver that will work with a downgrade and no information from HP.
however i am not one to give up without a fight.
I called up your motherboard number at HP and that is also used in the DV9000 series.
been digging around on the business side at hp as well.
try the wifi driver listed here.
right been reading the business side at hp, its the only way to find possible answers sometimes as the standard support sucks.

they say this may be your wifi driver.
i have my doubts over that to be honest i would think it might be this one myself.

microsoft UAA ( if not already installed )

geforce GFX card

( i know this set work as a few members have already installed it )

your going to need everest as well and that you can download from here and i will tell you why.
your need the everest ultimate download http://www.davesdrivers.com/forum/showth...24#pid4024

if your wifi still refuses to work with the list of drivers above i will need you to do the following.
install everest, and run it.
look in the left hand list and click the little + next to network.
click pnp/pci network

let me know what cards are listed by everest.

card reader

sm bus and co cpu drivers.

these two need to be fully unpacked and installed from device manager update driver option

your sound is still going to be a problem but once the UAA is installed and device manager then list's unknown HD audio on such and such bus we can try and track that down.

doing downgrades is not as easy as some people think, it takes time and try this and try that.
most support sites and tech people just won't do it as you need to put in lot of time and effort and most of all leg work on the net to find the answer's

on here i have helped countless people with downgrading and something i enjoy as the answers don't come easy.
Broke down and opened the savings to buy a netbook so that I can fix my laptop. If you got my last email that line will make sense. Im about to try and put on the wireless....here goes
Dave, I've done quite a bit of work today. I got internet going! However, I now have three little wireless icons. The one that got my internet going was the one that the business department told you to use. In my bottom bar I have these icons: wireless network connection (which is the same as what I had before the downgrade), and now I have a little tower that says "WLAN:ON Bluetooth: Disabled", and then I have the Atheros wireless thing that shows some towers representing my signal strength. If possible I would love to get down to just one. Do I need the HP wireless assistant thing? OH yeah, for some reason I keep losing my connection to the internet. It happens like every 10 minutes or so.

Second, my OHCI Compliant IEEEE 1394 Host Controller still is unknown. I think that's the Bus but when I tried to use the driver you gave me the link for it gave me a message that the current one is better so it will not download it. PCI\VEN_1180&DEV_0832&SUBSYS_30CF103C&REV_05\4&37A8D8D1&0&2840

HP Integrated Module driver still has a yellow question mark.
And I still have an unknown device.

Audio device on high definition audio bus:HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_14F1&DEV_5051&SUBSYS_103C30CF&REV_1000\4&887B936&0&0001

Modem device on high definition audio: HDAUDIO\FUNC_02&VEN_14F1&DEV_5051&SUBSYS_103C30CF&REV_1000\4&887B936&0&0002

those icons are normal, you have the Atheros connection program running along side the windows connection the two can fight each other and drop your net.
if you don't want to use the atheros software simple double click its icon and tell it let windows handle the connection and not to start with windows.
then log in to wifi on connections in networks ( control panel ) and tell windows it should config your wifi,
that will remove both the signal and the atheros from your taskbar menu's

the bluetooth being disabled is down the HP Integrated Module driver that is your bluetooth missing its driver and i will try and find that now.

your sond and modem are the conexant, they can be a pig to get running but not impossible.

right bluetooth

sound http://www.mediafire.com/?dg0cmmkm4y4

once your sound is installed windows update will give you the modem driver

the RICOH OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394 Host Controller is part of the memory card reader drivers did you load those up ?
if not

then use windows update.
Dave..I switched the atheros client to obey windows but here is the problem I'm running into with my internet. Looking in my "Wireless internet connection" window it shows all my availables and I click to connect to my primary one. The atheros wireless network adapter connects but in the "wireless internet connection" box it says that it's not connected yet. In fact, the little picture of a computer with a wireless signal next to it has a red X but the atheros signal shows full bars. This leads to frequent disconnections and I've already ran into a hairy situation with one of my professors because I keep having to refresh or close an online test i'm taking. UPDATE: I closed the atheros bars and the same thing is happening. I'm connected to the internet, but the wireless internet connection box says "not connected" but if i click on the name of my network it says i'm connected and if I look at the button at the bottom that normally says "Connect" or "disconnect" it says "disconnect". I love having the internet just frusturated that it keeps booting me off. On my wife's netbook we are not having this problem.

The sound driver isnt working. I unzipped it to my desktop and tried to run the setups in both but they wouldnt work.

update 3:13pm: That host controller still has a yellow question mark by it even after installing the card reader.
