yahoo messenger conflict with web cam
#1
my friend has a elecom ucam-dlj200h web cam problem. using his old laptop, we try skype messenger, there's no prob. but using yahoo messenger, there's a prob on which i was confused and amazed. when using video call, there's no prob. but if u will use it as invite to view my web cam..it will not work. no video. now, he requested to swap my old microsoft vx-3000. everything is fine! and now, i am using his elecom webcam on my desktop and here's the new prob occured... video call (web cam not working) on yahoo messenger but if u will invite to view my web cam..it works fine! lol how is it happened? and in skype, it works fine.

this webcam comes up with a driver but as soon as you inserted the usb..it will automatically installed the driver.

its installing a microsoft driver over what you have on the disk,
just something about that cam yahoo don't like, i had that with a early logitech messenger cam.
worked fine with msn but not yahoo.

if you want to try the driver thats on the disk load it up from device manager,
put the disk in the drive cancel any auto start, go in to device manager, right click on the cam
select update driver, when it wants to seach don't let it, browse to the cdrom and open the driver
folder, highlight any files showing

i tried what you had said...but the wizard could not find a better match for the hardware that the software are currently installed. i tried to uninstall it but it automatically installs the driver everytime i will scan for harware changes.

no driver installation needed just plug/connect it only?? weird!

well do it again dave, post a message hit post and sod all happens, lol lol

call up its driver details from device manager, let me know what they are
and i will check old m/s database for you and see if i can find anything better.

now i feel like being cheeky
when you have that netcafe built it will need one nice touch, a big banner in the middle of the shop saying
supported by davesdrivers.com lol lol lol

I know whats going to happen one problem and you will be on the net to me, lol lol
i really don't mind that, old biggles knows his networking and i know my hardware.

your going to need filters in place as well, not sure what the law is out there, but over here filters are in place to protect childern from porn
in net cafes

My head is doing the big spin at the moment (Dave knows what I am on about) so I am unable to understand your post. Only thing I can suggest right now is to make sure you have the following ports open on your firewall.

TCP 5000 - 5001
TCP 5055 - 5055
TCP 5100 - 5101

Had problem when my wife wanted to chat with family in Cebu. Messenger worked without a problem but effing Yahoo, grrrrrrrrr.

I will look back in when head stops moving.

thanks biggles. dave, actually if you wish/allow me and i will place it also under my logo. lol there's no big deal about that! hehehe besides, it's true... every problem i encountered i usually run to this site. to date, my family are not interested or let say they are afraid to handle the business since they really don't have any idea with the computers. ( edited )

maybe you are wondering i have a big guts to handle that business with a little knowledge in computers..well, mostly here in japan, my fellow filipino and some foreigner thinks i am genius! lol! thanks to dave and biggles! lol!

same goes to philippines were most users knows how to play games and chat only. and in netcafe, usually the staff don't have any knowledge on pc. and i think that's the biggest advantage i have. don't worry about filtering the porn sites...i will do that bcoz most computers i already repaired was infected by malware and viruses due to visiting those porn sites. and they will run to me and asking to replace OS from japanese to english version. and please take note..i didn't ask a price, they usually brought me snacks in return! lol and the big reason why i am already 111 kgs on a 5"8 inches toll! a big fella!

Driver Description USB Video Device #2
Driver Date 7/1/2001
Driver Version 5.1.2600.5512
Driver Provider Microsoft
INF File usbvideo.inf

well nothing is showing up for Pid_7002 so i guess its a newer chipset.
i will keep a eye out for you and see if it ever gets updated.

By all means i don't mind my members showing where they get support from.
if you want to add my logo to the bottom of your own thats fine.

I edited your post, i think you can see why. its to protect you.

the thing about open forums like this is one is your ip address is logged by the software
if asked by the police i have to hand over all and any ip address logged in the system from a member they want to keep a eye on.
i can't really stop them doing that.

the internet is great for information, but its also yet another way of big brother watching what your doing.

hi dave! i'm back.
guess what, i received lot of calls during my out of town extra work/sideline..3 or 4 calls i think, the same problem with yahoo messenger ver 10 and new web cam. and i was suprice bcoz i heard one of them are using microsft hd webcam series which is new and logicool brand. the 2 webcam i like most, and now having trouble with yahoo messenger too. i guess yahoo messenger staff should be alarmed on this matter.

however, i will try to downgrade the ym to ver 9 or lower and let you know if it makes difference.

Maybe that is why so many Internet users are now running through a Proxy that hides their real IP.

Hmmm interesting topic. I have a similar problem but with MSN and applies to both when I try to chat with mic and use webcam as well. Such a pain and very annoying since I know everything is plugged in and set up right.

hahahaha I remember when I was in high school, everyone had laptops and would use proxies to bypass the filter. Our Admins couldn't see our screens nor could view any of the activity so they had no way of knowing what proxy was being used. It was until someone actually got caught first hand on the proxy site then they figured it out and blocked it. It was pretty funny since it took them about 7-8 months catch someone on that proxy.

sometimes i used proxy too to hide my real ip on downloading software/games thru rapidshare etc.

dave, i tried to intall ym9 but unfortunately, video call is not yet covered on that version. so installed ym10 again. but still prob occured.

does ym9 when installed allow you to upgrade one version to another like msn does ?
if so try doing it that way
Reply
#16
yes it did. and i upgraded it thru that way. i also reported the problem to yahoo with my email address but still no reply.

hi davey! just to inform you that new updates from yahoo messenger fixed the problem issue with new cam models here in japan. yesterday, new updates prompted me and i immediately installed it. both video call and view web cam only are now working perfectly. fyi.

yeah just goes to show crappy programing by yahoo in the first place.

would have been nice if they emailed and said yes we know of this problem.
Reply
#19
yeah..you're right! no replies, no feedback or violent reactions from yahoo about my report/email stating the problem. lol
Reply

did you really expect any feedback from them ?
msn is the same you report a problem to them and they don't even say thank you.

politness died a long time ago, very few people say thank you and please any more.
i must be getting old my mother use to give me a slap if i did not show basic poiltness to people.
