Well, Davey, not looking for help on this one yet - but it's going to have some baggage - it's my boss' sister-in-law's 6-month old -10 pound- $2000+ Vista Ult doorstop. Freakin' thing has an HD-DVD burner! Two 160G SATA drives! Bells! Whistles! Cameras! 5.1 surround built in...

And she absolutely HATES Vista. This one's going to be interesting when I pick it up tomorrow, slap everest on it, and see what's really under the hood. She's already out $130 for a copy of XP Pro OEM...

Read a little about it here: http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2192588,00.asp

I'm sure she doesn't know that HD-DVD is now "out".

...and toshiba's web site is a mess - at least I have the manuals downloaded...

Astro the Jetson's dog, says "Rut-row"...

I "think" this puppy has the nVidia GeForce 8600M GT... nVidia does not even list it - only shows the 8700 - says go to the manufacturer's site for drivers, and all other info I've read says it was developed as a hotrod Vista card for the laptop builders...

So... dare I try Omega drivers? DNA's? NGO's? Found a couple of NGO's over at Guru of 3D that "claim" they are for the mobiles as well...

Last time I tried an Omega release my Samsung CRT actually "clicked" as it shut off from the overdrive, and my LCD just went black and said "out of range", and the driver wouldn't scale down...

first stop would be the Omega drivers for me.
i have never really had a problem with them.

or laptop 2 go http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/

guru use both the omega and the moded files from laptop2go.
now that being if its correct the " 8 " series of the go you will hit a brick wall all you can do is keep trying.
i would even try to force the standard desktop drivers from nvidia

if she has yet to blank vista i would use that first to call up all the hardware from A To Z that way you know what your looking for from point 1

i can get you if it helps the following drivers from microsoft.
not listed if its for the dsktop or mobile just list

8600 GT / GTS / GS
massive set of drivers as well from 60 to 70 meg in size but if you want to have a play with them let me know and i will grab them off m/s for you.

i was just looking over the spec sheet at tosh

it does have the 8600m with 512 mem
and your a very lucky boy it has the realtek sound.
Mobile Intel PM965 Express Chipset

tip with that chipset.
load the desktop INF file for the 965p it will help xp see some of the devices.
Intel Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_D...N&lang=eng

no need to tell you how to try the vista drivers for the cam and other devices as i think you know by now Grin

I read more about this one before bedtime, including the manual(s) - not much help there. If you can grab those MS driver sets, I think I'll need to try them. The bonus is that it has two drives. I can use the second one as the primary - the "XPeriment" drive, and not wipe Vista until I'm sure it works.

Off to work, and pick up this beast.

no problem i will grab those later and upload them to site for you.

Now that I have it in hand, I'm not impressed with the physicals of it - very heavy, and the keys are slightly raised off the surface - easy to get dirt and such stuck under them. For all it's weight, screen and chassis flex a bit. And decals - has a giant decal on the "wrist-rest" area below the keys - combo of nVidia and Toshiba advertising - looks like a gamer vid card box...

Two Seagate 160G SATA's - 5400 rpm, and 4G of DDR2 533 ram - XP will never see it...

Thanks in advance for grabbing the drivers - saw there is a high-end Macbook that uses the 8600 card - wonder if those drivers will work - LoL

Davey - tried twice - won't unzip - got this message:

The sata drivers for this are the Intel 82801 - ICH8M - I have a "generic" Intel sata floppy disk which may be handy - let me know if we need it on the site.

Fomatting the "blank" second drive, now in the first drive position, so the XPeriment will start soon...

Third time was the charm - got the Microsoft video drivers.

The rig is now running XP Pro - off to work, then back tonight to see if this frankenshiba will work correctly.

Is there a two-drink minimum at this bar? Comp1
Quickly becoming a bigger pain than that HP last Christmas - even my bud's Sony... so far have downloaded and tossed six vid drivers. The Microsoft 8600's you grabbed could not find the hardware, and neither could the two NGO's, nor the Omega I tried, and... the following: Vista set is the Forceware 101.19 - lots of 32-bit XP copies out there - not at nvidia. So far, found a couple through Softpedia, but they are "branded" - the ASUS version partially installed the driver, then stalled, saying it could not copy the driver, and needed the file from the "NVIDIA Windows 2000/XP Driver Library Installation Disk 1" - but of course XP won't let me make a directory of that name - it has a "/" in it... :loll: Now the "?" is a "!" so I'm closer...

drop kick its ass out the window lol

the trouble is the version of the nvidia card not many third party drivers out just yet as its pretty new in the laptop range.
keep trying something may take.
did you try the nvidia desktop drivers from nvidia ?
sometimes if you force them they go on , ok you don't get all the power saving crap you do in the full set of go drivers but it may get you out of trouble.

Looked at that last night - this thing is a mule - a lot of different hardware brands sitting on an Intel board. The only nvidia is the vid card. About to try two more drivers from laptops2go - ha ha ha.

Teehee - and getting a Satellite CAD rig I set up for a good friend four years ago, overnighted to me tomorrow - seems he got a virus his IT department can't remove... and he designs drilling rigs for the North Slope in Alaska, and for the big Chinese National oil company to drill the South China Sea...

Might be important - gotta keep those gas prices down... believes he picked up the virus while in Beijing, and thinks he managed to kill his company's mail server with it in Texas when he came home...

this may sound strange but you can try this as it won't hurt.
download the vista driver from tosh.
download the set you had half working from asus.

copy and paste the files from the tosh folder in to the folder of the asus one.
if you lucky it will replace the laptop name from asus to tosh and load up from device manager
if your unlucky it won't do sweet sod all but i have done that in the past when i run out of options and just start playing the driver files direct.

I just got lucky - this one from laptops2go worked - XFastest 174.74 WinXP32... very new release - must be ok - blew out the display to 1920x1200 !!! Couldn't even see the labels under the miniscule icons... HaHa

Want a copy for the archives? I'll up it to you.

...now to find everything else...

hum, if the driver won't zip try this.
make a new folder on the desktop.
name it what you like.
shove the driver inside that folder.
then zip up the new folder you just made, that should work..

that looks like a mod to the forceware desktop driver to me...

I believe it is. Runs well - just doesn't have 1280x800, which is usually good for people with bifocals - like me... LoL Running it 1440x900 - nice and sharp, just a little small - lower res is way out of focus, or distorted.

Realtek driver seems to have worked, but I don't have the 5.1 control panel/support - going to get the network drivers, then to bed - real job/work starts before dawn tomorrow, 6:30AM... bleah
