Compaq Presaria V3000 LAN drivers
#1
Hello Everybody!!
I am having problem with connecting internet through cable LAN.
We have LAN at our university. My Laptop is installed with Windows Vista Ultimate (6.0, Build 6000) System Model V3500 Notebook PC (32 bit Operating system). It is showing only the Broadband and Dial Up options while setting the new internet connection. There is no ethernet LAN connection. I am not getting any drivers for the LAN.
Have a look at it:
http://www.box.net/shared/da915d98gk
Plus one more problem I have. The Office file (word, excel, ppt) icons are not displayed as they are. They look like as if unknown file. Same is the case with adobe files (adobe pro 8.0).
Can somebody help me solve the problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Waiting for kind help dear friends!!!

Ravi

what is the full model of that laptop ?

if you turn it upside down you will find a sticker on that sticker is the full model number.
note it down then click this link to hp.
http://h20180.www2.hp.com/apps/Lookup?h_...submit.y=2

match your model from the list and click it.
that will take you to all the downloads for your model.
download and install the lan / Ethernet Controller.

now the word problem will show like that if you do not have microsoft office installed have you installed a vista compatable office ?

like wise adobe files will not open without a vista adobe reader installed.

Dear Admin,
I am very much thankful to your kind reply first of all.
The sticker reads like this:
"Product: Compaq Presario V3500

I went to hp site and but couldn't find the lan / Ethernet Controller drivers. Please help me.
Downloading latest adobe reader 8.1.2 solved the problem. Thanks a lot.
Please help me regarding setting the ethernet LAN connection.

ok your model is the V3611AU

as far as i can see at hp your lan is built in the nforce chipset drivers so please click this link and download and install the nforce chipset driver.
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softw...86&lang=en

that is the main link to all the downloads on offer for your model at hp.
if you have any other problem device look down that list for the driver.

now sometimes the lan does not auto install with the nforce but i will cross that bridge if you run in to problems.

Dear davey6,
Thanks a lot for reply.
Shall I only install NVIDIA nForce Chipset Driver?
Or all drivers I have to install?
Ravi

Dear davey6,
I installed the suggested "nforce chipset drivers". Actually they were installed already. I just overwrite the files and reinstalled it.
But still the problem is not solved.
Please see the following file:

And let me know please.
Waiting.

ok the lan card needs to be installed from device manager.

first off click start mycomputer
open your c drive and find the nforce folder.
open that folder and find the Ethernet Controller folder.
now copy that folder over to your desk top.

close all open windows.
click start , control panel , system icon, advanced tab, device manager
right click on the problem lan card and update the drivers from the folder you just copied to your desktop.
it should be the correct driver as that was downloaded direct from hp.

right do you have any sort of net connection at all you can use for this next step ?

if you do click this link.
http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us

under option 2 click motherboard drivers.
download and install what nvidia offers.

please make sure when you do the install that any firewall and anti-virus software are switched off.

you can also try the auto detect at hp.

if the dail up modem is working in that hp laptop use that to connect to your isp and then use the auto detect at nvidia.

if you go the full system retore route , you will need the full system restore disk that you should have made when you first switched on that laptop.
without those disk you will be back to where you are now or worse still have now drivers what so ever.

you can also try the built in system restore built in vista.
when that laptop was built it had a pre set restore point made by hp.
click start , programs , accessories , system tools , system restore.
use that program to go back as far as you can.
with luck it will restore the laptop back to just out the box config.

as that has the built in nvidia 6150 gfx card this should be the correct set of drivers.
http://www.nvidia.com/object/nforce_winxp_15.24.html

the self install may well fail as hp don't let nvidia write to teh inf files however the network card should still work if you install it from device manager.
so what you need to do is try the self install, if it fails to work , look in c drive, nvidia , 15.24 for the driver.

Dear Brother,
I am very much thankful to you for solving out the problem.
My laptop has only 512 MB RAM. Currently I have installed Windows Vista on it about which I am not very satisfied. So I have decided to switch to Windows 7. So I need to upgrade my RAM to 1 GB (by replacing 512 MB). Kindly suggest me 1 GB RAM which is compatible to my laptop.
Your help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanking you again.

can you flip that laptop upside down look on its sticker and post back with its full model number.
its the V3000 range but that may well not be its full model number.
i need to do that so i can check up what is the best memory and speed you laptop can take.

i would advise if you going from vista to windows 7 that you consider a 2 gig upgrade to your memory

2 x 1 gig simms.
you will get the best from windows 7 that way.
